Imagine the incredible places you'll explore! Begin your underwater adventure by enrolling in our Open Water Scuba Diver course. This entry-level certification class teaches you the essential knowledge and skills to dive safely in open water.

Earning your Open Water Scuba Diver Certification is an achievement you'll be proud of, opening the door to a lifetime of underwater adventures and discoveries.

During the course, you will learn about modern diving equipment, diving science, responsible diving practices, and environmental awareness. Skills will first be practiced in a confined water environment, then applied during your open water dives under the supervision of an instructor.

Open Water Course Overview

1. Course Registration
   Once you select a course date and book online, you’ll receive a link to start your e-learning. This must be completed before Orientation Night.

Day-by-Day Breakdown

Day 1 | Orientation and Pool Session

• Time: 7:30am – 5:00pm
• Location: Manly
  Your first day includes a theory session, review of your e-learning, and an overview of the course and expectations. You'll also be sized for your scuba gear and meet your instructor and dive group.
  The remainder of the day will be spent in the pool, where you'll practice essential scuba skills, gear setup, and safety procedures. This session will also include a 200m swim, a 10-minute float/tread water, and a snorkel session.

Day 2 | Exam and Pool Session

• Time: 7:30am – 5:00pm
  You'll take the exam in the morning, followed by another pool session to refine your diving skills.

Day 3 | Shore Dives
Your first ocean dives will take place at a Gold Coast location. You'll apply the skills you learned in the pool to the open ocean, completing 1-2 shore dives.

Day 4 | Boat Dives

• Time: 6:00am start from Manly Marina
• Location: Brisbane
  You’ll enjoy two boat dives at one of Brisbane’s top dive sites aboard Brisbane Scuba's dive charter vessel 'Voyager'. Lunch and beverages are included. After returning to the marina, you’ll participate in a course debrief, log your dives, receive your Open Water certification, and celebrate with a BBQ!

What's Next?

Brisbane Scuba offers local dive day trips, as well as extended intrastate and international dive trips. You can also further your training with courses such as Advanced Scuba Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox, Rescue Diver or St. John First Aid.
